Student Advisory Board

The Student Advisory Board is made up of volunteer student representatives from our programs who act as advocates for all distance education students. The Board advises the Distance Learning Center regarding student concerns, suggests new initiatives, and acts as a mentoring resources for new and prospective students. If you have any concerns, suggestions, or questions, please reach out to a representative.

The board meets via teleconference three times during the academic year. They discuss topics submitted by members, students, and Distance Learning Center staff. The feedback provides staff with recommendations when changes to policies are being considered. Student Advisory Board representatives also occasionally poll their classmates in the Desire2Learn discussion board to solicit additional input. If this opportunity is ever available to you, please help us out by responding to your classmate's request.

If you would like to serve on this volunteer advisory board, or have any questions, please feel free to contact the Distance Learning Center, at 800.362.5460 or sab@uwplatt.edu.

Why I chose UW-Platteville Online: I teetered with online grad school for about three years. I would periodically research a variety of schools and always ended up at the UW-Platteville site. What drew me in was the variety of distance learning degrees and the ease of the programming would fit into my life as a mom and corrections field supervisor for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. The application process was user friendly and any questions were met by helpful staff. Joining the Platteville community is a decision I haven't regretted.

My degree purpose: The networking possibilities are endless and I am happy to say I have met a couple of lifelong friends on this journey. Even though we are spread out throughout the country, opportunities to work closely with each other bring our world's together. I am proud to represent the Organizational Change Leadership program on the Advisory Board!

My work experience: I am a Corrections Field Supervisor for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.

Why I chose UW-Platteville Online: I chose to attend the University of Wisconsin-Platteville because it was ranked in the top of schools available to offer a degree in project management. The reason UW-Platteville won out is that it was the only one that offered a certification proir to obtaining my master's degree.

My degree purpose: I chose to pursue the degree of master's in project management because after having obtained a bachelor's in health administration and a master's in business leadership I felt as though I had a wealth of knowledge but on a systematic way to apply it. I was not willing to apply for a job and hope I could accomplish it. I was determined that there had to be a way to take my knowledge and figure out a way to apply it in a way that made sense. So I began to seek online and found project management and knew it was what I had been looking for.

My work experience: I am currently an event planner in my own company and a business consultant. I am working specifically with startup businesses and non-profits utilizing my business knowledge and applying project management practices.
